The Alta Club, designed in Italian Renaissance style, was completed in June, 1889, two years after Utah received statehood. Over the years, the clubhouse has been well maintained but there was a growing concern for the continuing use and future of the historic building.
The Alta Club members decided to renovate the Club in lieu of selling the property and building elsewhere. The necessary renovation work included structural reinforcing, adding a new staircase, improved electrical systems, new mechanical and air-handling equipment, as well as architectural modifications to practically every room - from the basement to the the third floor.
GSBS Interiors Group worked closely with the architect, Max Smith of MJSA, in providing an interior finish and furniture scheme that met the client's demanding budget and also retains much of the charm and elegance of the historic original. |
