Our design team honored the context of the granite mountains, long vistas, and adjacent waterways with emphasis on the master plan concept, minimal parking impact, and the use of natural colors, shapes, and materials. The complex includes approximately 1,000,000 s.f. of office and hotel development space on a 45 acre site which was previously a gravel pit. This office park is located at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon and boasts spectacular views of both the canyon and the Salt Lake Valley. The landscape design uses native plants and creates a dry creek bed through the complex, reflecting the beauty of the canyon. The creek bed theme is continued inside the buildings through the use of color and texture. Also included in the landscaping concept are approximately 3500 parking spaces.
In addition to the master plan, GSBS designed buildings 8, 9, 10, and 11, all located on this site.
Buildings 8, 9, 10 & 11 are organized into pairs of five- and six-story buildings, each joined by a common lobby that allowed GSBS to provide a higher level of design than individual smaller lobbies would afford. Canopies of granite and glass rise toward the mountains and highlight the dramatic entrance. We collaborated with a local artist to create lobby spaces that reflect the environment and blur the line between art and architecture. The exterior facades are buff-colored granite and green high-performance glass, which evoke the natural rock and vegetation of the local environment. The "sawtooth" building plans take advantage of the remarkable views of the mountains and the sweeping Salt Lake Valley to the northwest, thereby tripling the opportunity for prestigious corner offices and conference rooms. |
