Millard County hired the GSBS/WHR Team to create a replacement facility on the IHC Delta Community Medical Center campus. In order to create an enhanced community with a residential scale for the 60 residents, primary design goals for Mountain Health Design were to: create smaller scaled residential living groups, promote a strong hierarchy of circulation from public to private space, incorporate decentralized food service, and provide a direct connection to the hospital.
The design team created two neighborhoods, located on either side of a curving Main Street, which are composed of three-household clusters of 10 residents. To create small group bonding and a sense of privacy, while discouraging unnecessary visitors, bedrooms are arranged in cul-de-sac configurations around individual living rooms. Residents enjoy interior porches for people-watching.
Working with the Utah Department of Health, typical nurse sight lines were created by locating decentralized Certified Nurse Aide desks within each household cluster. Room layouts were designed to create privacy for each resident while sharing an accessible bathroom.
Designed as a country kitchen, the RN nurse workstation is located at the center of each neighborhood, directly adjacent to the decentralized dining/activity room. Serving carts are brought to the neighborhood dining rooms to serve larger groupings as well as to household clusters for smaller groupings. |
